Frames are the conatiners for the data to be displayed on a page. Each frame contains a grid, so that cells can be placed in them. This chapter deals with creation and use of frames, for the layout of cells in frame see {short description of image}grid layout.

Using frames

A frames primary purpose is to hold a grid which alligns elements. Therefore you create a frame when you want to align your data differently from other parts of the report. Initially ReportWeaver will create 4 frames in a template. These are header, footer, title and body. You can add more body frames, but there are at most one header and one footer frame.

  1. This is the header frame.
  2. Title frame.
  3. Body frame with a table.
  4. Footer frame.

Creating frames

From the Add menu choose  Insert Frame or  Append Frame to add a new frame above or below the current frame.

Deleting Frames

To delete a frame select it by clicking in its margin and select edit/delete from the menu, or press del.

Switching Header/Footer Frames on different pages.

ReportWeaver allows you to have different headers/footers on the first, subsequent and last page.

To set up header/footer switching go to the Tools menu and select configure Header/Footers which brings up the dialog below:

First Page Header
First Page Footer
Select Yes to display a header on the first page, No if you do not want a header on the first page.
Middle and Last Pages Header
Choose Yes, No or like previous. This setting is also used for the header of the last page.
Middle Pages Footer
This is the footer used for pages numbered 2 .. n-1. If the report has 2 pages, then there will only be a first and a last page header.
Last page footer
The footer used on the last page.

Preview of Header/Footer configurations

To edit the header and footer of subsequent page use header/footers from the view menu and select the page range that you want to see the header/footer configuration for.
